Friendly, helpful ladies made my haul! This was my first visit to Russian Gourmet and I will certainly be back again. Reasonable selection and prices for a suburban Virginia ethnic grocery. I used to shop at the NetCost and other Russian groceries in Rego Park, New York and while the scale and scope of Russian Gourmet was modest compared to those shops in much larger immigrant communities, their stock is good enough to scratch the itch. I purchased sausage, kielbasy, plenty of head cheese, pelmeni, pirozhki, caviar, meat sticks, sprats, and more. Upon entering their brightly lit shop, I tossed out a greeting, zdravstvuyte dobryy den’ and was greeted in return with smiles and nods…even though I said good afternoon though it was only 11 AM. As I looked around and filled my basket, they were quick to ask if I needed help with anything in the deli case or freezers. It’s unclear why anyone might report otherwise, but I found the two ladies to be pleasant, attentive, and approachable. It was a positive experience. In addition to the food, including ice creams, they had some clothing, toiletries, and periodicals. If I were to label the shop, I’d say it was like a Russian bodega. I’m mixing cultures, but it’s pretty descriptive. If you are like I was and hesitant to visit because of some negative reviews about the staff or food quality, don’t let that stop you. Friendly babushkas and fresh and cured, good quality food in clean and sanitary settings is what Russian Gourmet is all about.

A wonderful little store! I stopped there while traveling through with my family. We speak and read only English, but the staff were very helpful. Not completely sure what we got, but the fresh baked goods were delicious!
Wonderful product selection and the staff are always great and helpful. I think many of the negative reviews are from anti-Russian liberals.
